About
Meet Mulga Bore Hard Rock. They are a six piece band of brothers and cousins hailing from the remote central Australia desert community of Akaye, two hours northeast of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. This group of teenagers, ages 14-19 years old, bring from the hot, dry desert their own style of hard rock, but not just any kind of hard rock: GLAM hard rock, inspired by 70s, 80s and 90s greats like KISS, Status Quo and Guns N’ Roses. The sing in English and the Anmatyerre language of their mob. From forming at their tiny school of 12 students to winning a Battle of the Bands, to opening for their heroes KISS – yes, that KISS – on the End of the Road tour, MBHR, led by front man Alvin Manfong, are working hard to take their big anthemic rockers to the next level. They opened First Nations festival Yirramboi in Melbourne/Naarm, were selected for Music NT’s Bush Bands Bash and Desert Song Festival in Alice Springs 2023. In 2024 they have wowed the crowds in Melbourne at Sidney Myer Music Bowl at Share the Spirit and St Kilda Festival, recorded their first album at Hot House in St Kilda with the Neve desk from Alberts used to record ACDC and the Angels and kicked arse at Mona Foma in Tassie and played at the infamous Parrtjima in Alice Springs in April. The band are keen to make more music and play more shows across Australia and beyond.
