Featured Session: Sam Barlow - Making a Mario out of a Moviola and Ushering in 21st Century Storytelling

The creator of Her Story and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is in conversation to discuss the sea change occurring in storytelling technology and how he re-invented the interactive movie with 2022's critically acclaimed IMMORTALITY. Why has traditional media been slow to truly make use of technology and why are classic videogames like Mario and Zelda the inspiration for how Barlow is choosing to redefine the role of the audience? Moderated by Edmond Tran.

But even if we take for granted that games should attract the same kind of broad respect and reverence as other screen mediums, like television and film, there’s still a language barrier. Why is that? How do we discuss games as a fully realised medium and industry? What language do we borrow, and what do we need to do differently to discuss games critically, commercially, and artistically?
