NASA’s Artemis Program-Australia’s Role in the Moon to Mars Mission

Half a century after first putting humans on the Moon, we’re going back. But this time, we’re planning to stay!

Join Jim Free, the visionary of NASA’s Moon to Mars architecture and Australian Space Agency Head Enrico Palermo as they explore how and why we’re establishing a sustainable human presence on the lunar surface.

Moderated by Science Vs podcast host Wendy Zukerman, prepare for an out of this world discussion as Jim and Enrico look at the important role Australia is playing in Artemis – and why this once-in-a-generation space program is also vital to our future here on Earth.

A dead man with a bitten penis and perplexing DNA, a terrifying syndrome where everything around you appears in miniature, and the big lie Disney told us about lemmings: Wendy and Joel tell three science stories about times when things were not what they seemed in this live edition of Science Vs live on the Podcast Stage at SXSW Sydney. Science Vs is the award-winning podcast that looks at the science behind issues facing all of us: from pollution and pandemics, to sharks, ASMR, and intermittent fasting. Your Audience Is Bigger than You Think: Why You Should Be Thinking about Multilingual Content

FRI, OCT 20, 11:30 AM
Conference
Your audience is bigger than you think. Australians speak over 400 languages, with 167 of these being actively spoken Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. Nearly a quarter of Australians speak a language other than English at home. Globally more than ¾ of the world’s population do not speak English. By limiting ourselves to English only content we turn a blind eye to a huge audience. But it’s even more important than that. Linguistic diversity is an asset for Australia, encouraging cultural exchange and social cohesion. We are a richer society if we realise and foster our multilingual power. Media makers are just waking up to this. In podcasting, organisations such as Vice Media Group, Wondery and the BBC have all been working with bilingual or podcasts in languages other than English. Spotify is piloting a voice translation feature that translates podcasts into other languages using the original podcasters voice. But how do you actually make content for a multilingual audience? How will new tools and AI be part of this process? SBS publishes across over 60 languages. We make articles, podcasts and videos in English that get translated into many languages and vice versa. This session will open your eyes to the opportunity of creating multilingual content to expand your audiences. But more than this, you'll hear real experiences from producers that make this happen, sharing real life examples and practical lessons.
We acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of this land we now call Sydney, where this event will take place. We pay our respects to their continuing connection with cultural, spiritual and educational practices, and extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Always was, always will be.
