Mariel Thomas is a producer/ director with over twenty years’ experience in documentary and factual entertainment programming. With a passion for great storytelling, Mariel is committed to bringing intelligent, thought-provoking content to wide audiences, and seeks to keep emotion and authenticity at the heart of her stories. 

Mariel has worked on productions for the ABC, SBS and all commercial networks. She has field directed and story produced for the likes of Fremantle Media, Blackfella Films and Screentime.  Mariel has series produced a number of acclaimed productions including with credits including LOST FOR WORDS (SBS) series’ 1 & 2 at Endemol Shine, ABC’s WAR ON WASTE series 3 at Lune Media and FURTHER BACK IN TIME FOR DINNER (ABC) at Warner Bros. Her most recent credit is series director of BETTER DATE THAN NEVER (Northern Pictures for ABC).  Mariel also produced short-form documentaries JUDGED for News.com and LET HER SPEAK for Guardian Australia. These films were instrumental in changing laws around the treatment of sexual assault victims in the Northern Territory in 2020.  Mariel is currently co-directing a feature documentary.
