Joanne Orlando is one of the world's leading social commentators and analysts specialising in improving our digital behaviour. She argues that this is an extraordinary time to live and grow up, and that online spaces are powerful forces reshaping the way we live, work, learn, relax, our relationships, children and our mental health. Joanne focuses on the human side of technology to provide solutions to the most pressing digital lifestyle issues facing adults, and children.

Joanne is the ongoing digital expert for Australian TV including Sunrise, The Today Show, The Morning Show and Today Extra, and writer for the Sydney Morning Herald. Her commentary deals with understanding the stress and challenges that relate social media use, gaming, online communication, AI, tech for work and learning. Joanne has published a long list of cutting-edge articles, and is featured in publications worldwide including The Economist, Washington Post, Wired, The Guardian, to name a few. She is the person responsible for popularising phrases “sharenting”, “zombie scrolling” and “Finsta” globally.

Joanne has studied and worked within university research centres, key multinational organisations and governments around the world. She holds a PhD in Digital Behaviour from University of Technology Sydney. Her latest book 'Life mode on: How to feel less stressed, more present and back in control when using technology' is available globally.

Come and see the latest research about video games, Australia Plays presented by Prof. Jeff Brand. Jeff will be joined by Dr Joanne Orlando, a researcher and commentator specialising in digital wellbeing and technology. Together they'll dissect the many reasons people are playing games, who they are and why it's important for all industries to understand why we play.
