Lloyd “Elle” Ma (they/them/he/she) identifies as non-binary and is currently a researcher and academic tutor in the Games Studio, under the School of Computer Science at the University of Technology Sydney. As a local born within Sydney (within the lands of the Gadigal people if the Eora Nation) of Chinese heritage , Lloyd has grown up close to a multicultural centre being exposed to countless experiences. Lloyd’s currently focus within the research area of video games includes diversity, representation and equity at it’s core. Here Lloyd investigates how video games can be a powerful medium not just for mainstream populations but for underrepresented groups who are empowered by them as well. 

Lloyd’s  work delves into the trans-disciplinary space combing video games,  sociology, history, culture, social psychology, ethics, and traditional science to elucidate the multiple layers of complex interactions that video games and social justice interact and benefit greater society. 

As a avid gamer, Lloyd enjoys all forms of gaming genres from single player games to multiplayer online competitive games. Lloyd’s special interest includes social justice, video games, ethics, cultural studies and more.
