In 2014, Samantha Jennings joined forces with Kristina Ceyton at Causeway Films. Sam produced Cargo, which was Australia’s first Netflix Original feature film, Rathjen’s debut feature Buoyancy, which won Best Indie Feature Film at the 2019 AACTA Awards and acclaimed artist Del Kathryn Barton’s feature debut Blaze starring Simon Baker, Yael Stone and Josh Lawson. She also produced Sundance winner Goran Stolevksi's You Won’t Be Alone starring Noomi Rapace, Alice Englert and Annamaria Marinca, distributed by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International, and Jenna Cato Bass’ socio-political horror Mlungu Wam, which premiered at TIFF 2021. In 2022 Causeway delivered Goran Stolevski’s second feature Of An Age and Talk To Me, the debut feature from YouTube sensation RackaRacka, which world premiered at Sundance 2023, where it sold to A24, followed by screenings at Berlin and SXSW.

Audiences eat up (pun intended) the horror genre. There is something about tapping into our deep-seated fear for what lurks in the dark. It is our primal need and as the screen industry recalibrates post pandemic, audiences are hungrier than ever for the genre, with Australian projects and filmmakers leading the charge. Hear from some of these leading horror directors about what draws them to the genre, how they build story within it and as a genre that is forever shape shifting, where to next for themselves and the genre.
