About
Dr Alethea Beetson is a Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi + Wiradjuri storyteller and dreamer living on stolen land in so-called Brisbane. She skerms in her seat when her professional bio is read out because despite the grandeur of it all, she mostly answers a lot of emails and responds to messages on Slack. Every job she now has, Alethea owes to the often-silenced work of Indigenous people who have gone before her. She is a writer and director working across theatre, film and other performative mediums. This means Alethea spends a lot of time oscillating between thinking she is in fact god…or feeling utterly useless. One of Alethea’s greatest loves is music made by Indigenous artists, on this continent and all over the world. A large portion of her work is continuing the work of those who have gone before her in ensuring the music industry is acutely aware of their active role in the on-going harm of colonisation whilst also understanding their role in reparations. But more importantly, throwing parties for mob within the sovereign music space is where Alethea feels most at home.
