Alex Matthews

CommBank General Manager Climate Strategy & Commitments

Alex is CBA’s General Manager Climate Strategy & Commitments. He is responsible for shaping the Bank’s climate-related objectives and commitments and working across the bank – including its customer facing business units and support units – to deliver them. Alex also leads the bank’s efforts on carbon measurement.

Prior to joining CBA, Alex was a consultant with McKinsey & Company focused on financial services, climate change/ESG, strategy and public policy. He has a decade of experience across these areas, working across Asia Pacific and in the United States. He has also spent time in the public and social sectors, with Australia’s Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, philanthropic foundations in the United States, and global education non-profits.

Alex holds a Master in Public Policy (Social and Urban Policy) from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Economics) from the University of Melbourne.
