Riddle of Fire
Riddle of Fire
United States
Weston Razooli’s feature debut premiered earlier this year at Cannes Film Festival.
This neo-fairytale set in Wyoming, USA follows three mischievous children as they embark on an odyssey when their mother asks them to run an errand. On the hunt to obtain her favourite blueberry pie, the children are kidnapped by poachers, battle a witch, outwit a huntsman, befriend a fairy, and bond together to become best friends forever.
Programmer's note: The best debut out of Cannes this year (there I said it), Weston Razooli’s delightful kids-in-peril fairy-tale is, much like the blueberry pie at the center of its beautifully ludicrous choose-your-own-adventure-plot, the most delicious of cult film concoctions. Shot on lush 16mm Kodak film in the vast wilderness of a sunny Wyoming, it unfolds like the unmatched summer adventures of your youth, drawing from a myriad of alchemically assembled influences that will delight parents and children alike. In other words, if a millennial riff on The Goonies for the D&D-playin’, psych-rock-listenin’ Otomo-obsessed generation sounds up your alley, step into the fire and dare solve the riddle.
